day 1, in progress

the cleanse has officially started
...and man oh man am i hungry! first though, a little about my morning. i woke up 30 minutes later than intended (a regular occurrence) feeling, well, not good. i stayed up slightly past 2am posting last night. sure the last post shows up as 10pm, but consider blogger's time is set to pst. i haven't yet found a way to modify this behaviour.

back to the story, i woke up and begrudgingly drank my 32oz of warm salt water mix. i started with a straw but my housemate was in the kitchen advising me to chug it. it wasn't so bad, and drinking it brought back memories from college when i used to chug the same cupful of water (sans salt, thank you) after a night of drinking to combat dehydration.

the effects of the salt water flush were inline with what i expected. none too pleasant, but wholly necessary for the cleanse. while waiting for the effects to kick in, i started squeezing lemons. this is apparently my new way of life! i squeezed 22 halves of organic lemon. they smell fantastic. they'd better, though - after all, i'm giving up food to do this! i squeezed it into a plastic container (pic at right) and got the other items together. can you believe 11 lemons only yielded this much?

heading off to work

the weather today's too nice not to take the motorcycle to work. much to my surprise, the 128oz container of filtered water, my large lemonade container, the lemon juice, cayenne pepper and all of my stuff fit on the motorcycle with no problem. it wasn't until i arrived at work that i remembered the #2 ingredient: the maple syrup! doh!!!

a co-worker thankfully recommended a health food store here in new roc, so i left work and ventured over to pick up their last container of grade B dark amber pure maple syrup (this is what's specified in the diet). i was famished by the time i returned to work. i hadn't eaten much the day before and even went to bed with the grumbles. i made the concoction and it tasted good. i added a little too much cayenne and that, well, burned my mouth a bit. go figure.

it's now late afternoon and i've had about 8 glasses worth. my stomach's still starving, grumbling every few minutes. the cleanse calls for 6-10 glasses of the lemonade daily, with 10 being appropriate to someone of my size. to quell my hunger, i suspect that number will likely go up to 15 or more. if i understand this correctly, my appetite will subside as the cleanse continues. i sure hope that's true!

Having done this cleanse many a time & juice fasting for 9-10yrs u may have some questions as you go along that I can answer. Have u tried a netti pot for your sinus issues? Its highly recomended. I personally never liked the salt water flush b/c it made me bloated so I used the herb cascara segrada to 'push' things out. Make sure ur having@least 3BM's(thats bowel movements) a day. I've also done the raw diet, but I found it hard to maintain. I have some books u may want to read so email me for the titles.I find 4 me ideally a 40-50% raw diet w/no dairy, wheat or sugar. I will be doing some cleansing this month so ask away. Strange things will come out ur body & eventually in ur mind 2!

T-
thanks for the comment! many people have recommended the netti pot, just in the past couple of weeks. honestly my sinus situation is one of those things i've learned to live with - something i don't want to keep doing. so thanks, i'll check it out after the cleanse.

i don't want to change the SWF, just because i'm trying to stick to Burroughs' book as much as possible. do you want to borrow it before you split for VA?

Oh no I have this book & many others on fasting. After 10yrs doing this I've created my own cleanses. Eventually u'll figure out things that are best for ur body. Mucus in ur body is the main cause for many diseases so I would recoment The Mucusless Diet by PROF. ARNOLD EHRET & The Miricle of Fasting by Paul Bragg. Like I said, for me raw was hard to maintain (esp in winter) but eventually everyone finds their own balance. If you don't meditate then I would start during the cleanse. Things that are cloudy can become clear.
